Just a few random thoughts for the day...

First off, I was way too spoiled this week with only having to work 3 days. We had off Monday for President's Day and then Wednesday we quite unexpectedly had a snow day. Needless to say, next week's full 5 day schedule is gonna be rough!

I'd now like to officially proclaim that every female I know should take belly dancing lessons. I never would've imagined that it was such a self esteem booster! When I first walked into the class I was my usual bitch face gotta-make-myself-feel-good-by-putting-down-others self. I was all like Damn, that girl shouldn't be wearing a sports bra! Did that one over there eat her husband or what??? But the instructor is really into the fact that we're all "beautiful in our own unique way" and that each one of us "is a goddess", and I realize that perhaps sometimes I'm a little hard on myself and pretty much 99% of the rest of the world's population when it comes to looks. Then the other day I was reading Carolyn Hax's "Tell Me About It" column in the paper and she was answering this guy's letter saying how his girlfriend could never truly love him until she first learned to love herself. So, yes, to answer the question that's on everyone's minds right now- I DO rely on belly dancing at a community college, newspaper advice columns, and writing in an online diary instead of seeing a therapist!

I also must take a moment to give mad props to whoever came up with the idea for that little puppet guy who does the Best Buy wireless internet commercials. I don't know why, but I just love that little puppet guy! I think it's so funny when they show his dream of running around without wires. I was way too excited last weekend when he was on the cover of the Best Buy sales flier! But who am I kidding? He's way too short for me ;o)

And for anyone who may like to read, I've been reading the most incredible book called Random Family by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc. It's a true story that chronicles the lives of 2 young girls growing up in the Bronx in the late 80s and 90s. It's just crazy shit after more crazy shit- boyfriends making $500,000 a week dealing cocaine, giving birth to 4 children from 3 different men, visiting boyfriends in jail even though they have 3 other girlfriends, etc. I just love books that make you more socially conscious. As an outsider looking in, I think I know how these girls can get themselves out of this vicious cycle, but since I can't feel their pain or hopelessness I suppose I don't really know. But I do know how fortunate I am to not have had to grow up like that, in a world where sexual abuse and drive by shootings are more common than knowing someone who graduated from high school. I definitely recommend this book- I haven't been able to put it down! It's just the greatest feeling when you find a book that you just want to devour.

Yeah, I'm dorkier than I sometimes admit.
