06-21-2006 - 9:56 a.m. And now... the "summer of new experiences" begins! For the first time in 10 years I'm actually switching up my summer routine. No more serving hamburgers and french fries to cheapskate vacationers who think waitress service warrants a dollar tip. No more running into the infamous Steve on a regular basis and constantly wondering if today he'll hate me or love me. It's all new things for me! I still have my bartending job in AC, and will be staying on there adding a few more hours to my schedule. I'm also working as a counselor at a preschool summer camp at the local JCC- something my Catholic school upbringing has not quite prepared me for, but it's all good. Everytime I come across a term that I don't know, I call up my Jewish friend to fill me in. In other news, I'm now old as hell. I turned 25 last month, and promptly recieved a refund check from my car insurance company. Nothing says "your an old bastard" like no longer being considered a risky driver. It's funny how I always seem to forget just how old I am. The other day I was reading about some celebrity in People magazine and it mentioned that they are 22 years old and my first thought was "wow, he seems so much older! I didn't know we were the same age." It took me a minute or so to realize that we are NOT in fact, the same age. Again, I'm old as hell. So, since December 30th 2005 I've been a homeowner. I saved up for years to make my down payment, I pay all my bills every month- mortgage, condo fees, electric, water, etc. etc. And, after 6 months the property still sits vacant and my neighbors think I'm just a total moron for owning the place and not using it! Talk about a failure to launch. But of course it's just one thing after another that gets in the way. For example, the project was almost complete- this guy was just fixing up the bathroom for me and then I'd be all set. So the other day he takes out the old bathroom vanity, totally destroys it so that it is not longer usable, and then proceeds to discover that the new vanity won't fit. Turns out the drawers get in the way of the plumbing because the pipes are in the most ridiculous location on the wall. So I go to Home Depot yesterday, return the vanity, and discover that no home improvement store in the tri-state region stocks bathroom vanities that don't have drawers. I had to special order one that will take......... 4 to 6 weeks to deliver!!! Fucking great. I can't live in a home with no bathroom sink! Looks like my launch is once again postponed.
